In Nijverdal, a new sports and care centre is being built. In Februari 2009, the municipality of Hellendoorn decided to order a Virtual Scale Model of both the interior and the exterior of the complex. Additionally the design of the nearby emergency railway station was embedded in the model. The Virtual Scale Model was used for presentations to the city council, local inhabitants and end users of the complex. It provides a clear idea about the appearance of the building and its facilities. Additionally, the development of the Virtual Scale Model has put focus on some issues in the design which have lead to changes and improvements of the plans.
According to Vincent Rodijk, project leader at the municipality of Hellendoorn, professional communication is crucial when it comes to projects of this extent. "On one hand it can be used to inform the local inhabitants of the community and show what can be expected. On the other hand it provides a good instrument to attract allowance administrators and end users."
"The Virtual Scale Model has already been exhibited at several events. It is a fine instrument to manage expectations. Besides that it has revealed some mistakes in the design. In this phase we were still able to correct these without additional costs, while they would have brought irritation and unnessecary costs otherwise."
